Caroline Seiber Toted Vintage-looking Basket Purse to a Gala

image c/o stylebistro.com

Stylist Caroline Seiber attended the Sidacion Gala Dinner for MAC Aids Fund in Paris in a head-to-toe light blue confection with a basket tote reminiscent of vintage market totes which usually came in plastic. I did a little background check and found out that it was from Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2012 collection. I do vaguely remember seeing some basket totes when previewing the collection.

I guess the issue here is whether the tote is appropriate for such an occasion. Of course being a stylist, Caroline should know better right? Not to say that she doesn’t look great. In fact, she looks stunning. It’s just that toting a basket to a gala dinner is just something out of the ordinary.

Do you like Caroline’s purse choice or would you rather she goes with the conventional evening clutch? If the latter then maybe any of these is gorge enough to complete the powder blue metallic look she’s going for?

Taylor Swift’s Vintage Style: Looking For the Pop Star’s Tan and Leather Bag

It always amazes me whenever I see a young star project a penchant for vintage items. I didn’t expect Taylor Swift, for example, to exhibit such taste for flea market goods. I have always expected young stars to have the same taste for five-inch heels, leather pants, and studded booties so I find her vintage flair rather refreshing.

Another thing I would like to point out in these series of photos is how Taylor Swift is not afraid to use the same item more than once. Just check out how the tan and shoulder bag makes several appearances on her bargain shopping in and out of the United States!

I don’t blame her, it is quite the bag. It’s large enough to hold more than the necessary items like cell phones, a wallet, iPod, make-up, even a digital camera. And if anything, it jives with her vintage and country style that she carries so effortlessly. I don’t know about y’all but I think I’m starting to be a fan.

I found a similar-looking purse from Fossil’s Vintage Reissue line which is available in Endless. This flap cross body bag is in a beautiful camel color and accented with gold tone hardware.

This is the closest style I can find to Taylor’s favorite tan and leather bag and Fossil’s Vintage Reissue line also features styles with metallic colors, even floral prints.

Art Deco-Inspired PVC and Leather Clutch by Marni!

When it comes to vintage style purses and handbags, I have a little weakness for items with art deco elements in them. The geometric shapes which and styling which first found its home in architecture translates very well on fashion, especially when mixed with vibrant colors and textures.

Printed PVC and leather clutch, $385, Marni, Net-a-Porter

A good example of this ingenious translation is this early week find by Marni– a printed clutch which features a stunning arrangement of hexagons, squares, and circles on a mix of PVC and leather.

On Net-a-Porter, the oversized purse’s design is maximized by pairing it up with a bold, poppy-colored dress by Vanessa Burono Athé and creme-de-menthe platforms also by Marni.

This green and orange clutch has an equally eye-catching sister, a pink and white version of dots and slim stripes. I could see it with a short, structured black dress and matching pink flats.

Tote-ally Hip: Colorful, Tasseled Tote on Anthropologie!

My vintage pick of the week is frilly, colorful, and tote-tally tessellates of tassels!

Blithe & Buoyant Tote, $518, Mara Hoffman

Yes, totes are constantly a vintage product. It’s probably because it’s such a happy-go-lucky style of bag. Just toss in your stuff, sling your arm through the handles and you’re good to go! And as I have discovered, looking around vintage-inspired store Anthropologie, totes are also easily designed and with practically anything from Pharoah prints, colorful embroidery, and in this case, tassels!

Oh yes. Who would’ve thought throw pillow ears would find a place on a bag? It’s almost fashion suicide, but I think it works! And brilliantly so. It’s an unlikely combination and show me somebody who doesn’t– wouldn’t– find this bag fun?

There are of course, more on Anthropologie, but this is my favorite. If you’re visiting the site today, let us know which one is yours! Or which one you’ll be getting soon!
