Fashion is nothing but a cycle. Some say trends come back every 2 decades. If you pay close attention, the excess of the Eighties’ were apparent again in the 2000 era. That is the reason why we are always going to look back to and get inspiration from the past.

But first, what really is vintage? Vintage is essentially anything from another era. It doesn’t necessarily mean though, that anything old from a certain era is deemed vintage. More than age, it has be of exceptional quality and has to have that appeal to be desirable again.

As this site is solely dedicated to handbags, we take a quick look into the history of this almost iconic accessory. Handbags have first seen the light of day ever since people have had something precious to carry with them. That dates back to the 14th century when bags where attached to girdles which were fastened to the waist. It has then evolved to something more practical with the use of leather and cloth in the 16th century. The term “handbag” was coined in the 19th century referring to hand-held luggage. I am not about to bore you by further dwelling on the handbag’s history. As you may have already guessed, from the 19th century up to present, handbags played and still is playing  a very significant role in the fashion industry.

Today handbags have become iconic that they can actually make or break one major collection of a high profile designer or fashion house. There always has to be a bag along with the collection with the hopes of making it to “It Bag” status. And these designers almost always look back to history for inspiration.

The top 3 iconic handbags ever since the advent of mass media are the Hermes Birkin, the Chanel 2.55, and the Louis Vuitton Speedy. If you happen to own any of these, hold on to them for dear life as these 3 beauties will forever be the most sought-after handbags in the history of fashionable mankind.
